Each week the track getting the most love and air time at B R E A K T H E L O O P H Q gets a feature on the blog. This week it’s:
Sometimes an artist strolls in from nowhere and stops you in your tracks due to the sheer strength of their musicality and talent. Now, I know not everybody is a jazz fan but if you do dabble with it, Gregory Porter is the man of the moment. He has an ability to cross the genre lines between so many sounds and I do think it’s helping to bring a wider audience to the Blue Note Records sound, plus he’s been remixed by Disclousure, which can’t hurt. He is also the type of artist I thought no longer existed until I bought the albums ‘Water’ and ‘Be Good’ which are now followed by his latest, ‘Liquid Spirit’. I’m a huge Bill Withers fan and you’ll hear echoes of a similar rich tone of voice on these records. If you’re really enjoying it then you can also watch the video below which includes nearly an hour of live performance, recorded in Amsterdam, with the outstanding Metropole Jazz Orchestra.
I so wish I’d been there.
