Each week the track getting the most love and air time at B R E A K T H E L O O P H Q gets a feature on the blog. This week it’s:
Its time for another feature from a project I’ve been working on in this weeks BOTW. Nightbird, a one-off live recording of from January 3rd 1996, is an album I’ve spent months working on, mixing and refining for its release (Nov UK / Dec US). Nearly two decades ago 10 tracks from this night were released and this new 2 CD / 8 Vinyl set now includes the entire night with performances of songs by Eva that have never before been heard. It really does show what a masterful voice she had and what a talent she was, highlighting how sad it is that we never got the chance to hear her develop further. It has been one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve ever been involved in and I feel honoured to have spent so much time with these recordings. Tall Trees is a particular favourite for both Hayley and I because its simplicity allows the haunting, magical beauty of Eva’s voice to shine through unhindered. The album currently sits at number one in the UK Independent Album chart I highly recommend it (I would!) for a late night listen as Eva paved the way for many famous female solo artists that followed her.
