HOME RENOVATION | THE BEFORE

We’re slowly, slowly making renovation progress with our little country hideaway… When I say slow process though, I mean slow process. We’ve ripped out everything that we can possibly rip out – without giving Dan a heart attack over the loss of structural walls and whatnot. The whole place has been rewired, the roofers have literally just arrived on site to patch a few things up before winter hits (yep, I went there… Winter is well and truly on its way!) and my lovely bro is on his way round to make us some fitted cupboards. Our bathrooms should go in over the next two to three weeks if our lovely tub arrives in time (fingers crossed, please!) and then we can move in and start some heavy decorating!

Before it all changes too drastically though, I thought I’d give y’all a little tour…

Those lovely original floorboards were hidden under some rather special green carpet, ripping it all up to find them was a big relief, let me tell you! As we’re planning on painting them white, it doesn’t make much sense to fit expensive oak boards and neither of us are fans of laminate so yeah, we were pretty happy to see the floor in such a good state. Nothing a bit of sanding and filling won’t perfect!

Evidence of the delightful green carpet…

… And don’t get me started on this kitchen. It’s such a mish-mash of differently shaped cupboards, spider webs and ancient fixtures and fittings. All part of a successful renovation project though, right? The worse the before, the better the after?!

And now for the bathroom. Just, don’t…

The conservatory below is renovation part deux… We will be knocking it down and rebuilding a solid extension that will flow from the main living space.

Lots of work to be done in the garden also but it’s going to be the most gorgeous little walled courtyard. You probably won’t believe it but these pictures were taken after a good few hours of weeding! Before we bought it, the house had been sat empty for the best part of a year so it was pretty jungle-like out there, weeds sprouting up out of every last little crack, of which there are many.

It’s definitely not a palace (just yet) and I’ve already reached absolute decision fatigue but I’m so in love with it and I can’t wait to move in and make it our home.

Have you been through the renovation process? Any tips to keep our sanity?
