Blogging. One of my fave ways to spend time… My hobby, my passion project turned actual-real-life job. Whatever your motives for putting fingers to keyboard, by now we all know that if you’re freelance or a small business owner, you should be doing it. Blogging provides a way to not only grow your audience but also to connect with that audience on a more human level. It provides an opportunity to establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field. The list of benefits goes on and on but how do we master the dark art of blogging? How do some people seem to get endless traffic and opportunities whilst others struggle to get their mum and mates to read it regularly? Well, I can tell you now, it’s not magic and YOU can do it too. Ok so fair enough, not everyone is about to become the next uber-blogger (just keeping it real folks!) but consistency and persistence really does pay off and you can develop your blog to the point where it’s receiving a healthy and consistent amount of traffic that in turn results in more work and an elevated status within your chosen profession. To help get you on your way, I have created a recommended reading list of… Books to make you a better blogger.
All of the following books will give you something, whether that’s knowledge, inspiration or even just some renewed motivation to put into practice what you already know about blogging successfully.
BOOKS TO MAKE YOU A BETTER BLOGGER
ONE | The Million Dollar Blog
I really enjoyed this book and definitely got something from it both in the way of new knowledge and an all-important boost of motivation. Let’s face it, most of us know what we should be doing – it’s just the doing it part that we all get a bit stuck with. I feel like this book takes that knowledge a step further though. Definitely worth a read whether you’re a blogger, vlogger, marketer et al. If you buy one of the books on this list, let it be this one.
TWO | Blog Inc
I read this a really long time ago when I was living in Cyprus and after just recently starting a blog of my own (Oat Couture, RIP). I would say this book is really useful for absolute beginners, it will introduce you to new information in an easily digestible and non-overwhelming way. If you’ve been blogging for a while and feel you’ve already mastered the basics, go for something a little more advanced.
THREE | Creative Confidence
Think you’re not creative enough to be a blogger? Think again. We’re all inherently creative but if you need a little push in the right direction, read this book.
FOUR | How To Style Your Brand
Maybe you’re a business with clear branding already, maybe you’ve been going a while and after changing direction are now at a point where you need to rebrand, maybe you’re unsure of how to make your blog truly reflect you and the topic you want to blog about. Wherever you’re at, this book is brilliant for taking you through the branding process without you having to shell out thousands of pounds. I also wrote a little something about branding here for the quick version if you’re pushed for time but want to dip your toes in.
FIVE | Everybody Writes
I haven’t actually read this one but it popped up whilst I was searching for extra titles and has almost 300 pretty decent reviews so it must be worth a punt! After a quick scan, it’s premise is that our words are our brand (true) and so being able to communicate effectively is the cornerstone of any successful blog or business. This book will take you through the process and strategy of content writing across all mediums because don’t forget, your blog post isn’t where the writing ends, you need to be able to market those posts across your social media platforms with short-form, super compelling copy.
SIX | Not Taught
Another that I haven’t read yet… What used to work in the traditional sense of writing, working and earning a living, just doesn’t work as well anymore. In fact, there are way more opportunities open to us now and relying on traditional thinking to become successful will likely leave you falling flat on your face. Times are a changing whether we like it or not, this book promises to bring you up to speed.
THERE YOU HAVE IT, SIX BOOKS TO MAKE YOU A BETTER BLOGGER
I’m always looking for new books to read, so…
