This series is probably one of the favourite things that I share on the blog so apologies for letting it get so long between features! Today we’re chatting to another Phoebe, also one of my faves! Introducing Phoebe Greenacre, this woman is a force, she is full of the entrepreneurial spirit that I admire so much, she’s not afraid to get out there in the world and get her hands dirty, you know? A lot of us can fall into the habit of almost letting life pass us by… Not this girl! She’s independent, well traveled (she’s the founder of super successful travel blog, Wood and Luxe!), super smart and business savvy and I’m so proud to call her one of my tribe! She also happens to teach some of the best yoga classes ever, which is always a bonus!
A word from our featured athlete…
“I’m Phoebe, London based yoga teacher, travel blogger and freelance CEO. When I’m not traveling around with the blog you’re most likely to find me hosting yoga retreats (both overseas and in the UK!), helping to launch London based wellness companies or getting my sweat on at one of the many classes in town. My weakness include (but are definitely not limited to) chocolate, a large glass of Malbec and a new pair of sunglasses… You don’t even want to know how many pairs I own!”
Tell us your favourite outdoor space to train in London and why? This could be a park, a pool, a skate park, the velopark… literally any outdoor area you love to train in.
My favourite outdoor training space in London is Victoria Park or London Fields. Both are close to my house and a perfect for an outdoor yoga session, bike ride or a light jog.
Your ‘go to’ gym or indoor space to train in? Is it down to the equipment, the staff, the other people who train there?
I have a few indoor training spaces that I can’t get enough of. Studio Lagree in Moorgate as you are guaranteed for a killer workout. The teachers are epic – my favourites are Vinny and Matt.
Not that we need any excuse to take the scenic route but… Of all the awesome running, cycling & walking routes in our fair City, which one gets your heart racing and your fingers and feet itching to lace up or clip in and why?
If I’m central, then Hyde Park is my choice for running. You can do laps and laps without crossing your own path and the scenery is spot on. I also like to stop and watch the ducks 🙂
Tell us about your current fitness addiction? (Class, sport, gadget etc…)
My current fitness class addition is reformer pilates at Studio Lagree. I’ve been doing one class a week since the studio opened and it doesn’t get any easier. I don’t think I could do more than one class in the week as my muscles take days to recover. I do however love the challenge each time.
Do you have a sporting hero or idol and if so, who and why?
Not really (covers eyes). But I do love Rachel Brathen (@yoga_girl) on instagram. I love that she is using her yoga + social influence to fund social projects in developing countries. I would love to do the same one day.
What motivates you to get out there and get a workout done when you’re really not feeling it? Because let’s face it, we all have those days, especially with British weather to contend with!
I’m very lucky that I wake up pretty motivated and raring to go. I’m a morning person so always schedule my workouts close to waking up to get them out of the way. By the time the afternoon or evening comes, forget about it!
Your favourite place in London to fuel + hydrate / refuel + rehydrate before / after a killer session? Any hidden gems?
I love a refuelling at the Core Collective kitchen after a killer workout, All Press for a Almond Milk Matcha Latte and Route Cafe in Dalston for endless vegetarian salads.
Who is your favourite training partner and why? Go on, show them some love!
Hayley is definitely my go to lady for a training partner. Always an inspiration to train next to when I’m giving up. (Editors note – Your cheque is in the post! Ha! Right back at’cha sister!)
No matter how successful, we are all still a work in progress and it’s SO inspirational to see others striving for greatness in one way or another. We would love it if you could share with us a current fitness or lifestyle goal and tell us a bit about how you are working to achieve that goal? It could even be a previous goal that you set for yourself and subsequently smashed! Put it out there, be proud of your achievement! #humblebrag
I’m working on getting into the splits. It’s something I could do as a child but since adultness has set it, it seems so far away. My daily yoga practice is helping my flexibility with the splits. It’s actually all the other leg stretching and hip opening poses that is helping, not the actual splits pose.
Briefly talk me through your perfect session? From warm up to cool down…
Warm up with 10 minutes of sun salutations, 15 minutes of tabata, 10 minute swim in the pool, and 10 minute restorative yoga poses. Can we make it happen? (Yes please!!!)
What is one piece of advice would you give to an athlete who is new to London?
Get out there and try some new classes, buy a bike and cycle around London or go for a run to explore your neighbourhood. You never know what you might find. Also Class Pass is a cool way to try lots of classes for one monthly fee, it’s not exactly cheap but as long as you’re making sure you use it, it’s definitely worth it.
What is your favourite genre of music or artist to listen to during your workouts?
RNB mega mix!
Finally and most importantly… How do you ‘ B R E A K T H E L O O P ’, what does the phrase mean to you?
Break to the loop to me means to go your own way and not follow the crowd. Be daring, take that adventure and don’t look around to see if anyone else is doing it. (Yessss Phoebes! Love that!)
