For our final date night of 2016 we snagged a reservation at Sketch, this all thanks to James who just happened to be totally on the ball one late night whilst being up with a poorly toddler, perfectly timed with all the reservations being released online.
When James and Emma couldn’t make it due to coming down with a bug, we should have probably taken that as a sign. Without going into epic detail, you know we like to keep things positive here on Break The Loop, after all – we’re a lifestyle blog and not a hardcore review blog, the food was a massive let down. The gallery room, designed by David Shrigley – the walls adorned with his oddball illustrations, is the main pull of this place and I still think it’s pretty cool in all it’s madness. The bathroom is still the same futuristic egg design but I must say it’s probably overdue a rather hefty update and looks a little tattered around the edges.
PRICE
For two people with wine and a pre dinner cocktail you’re looking at £250 – £300 That is, unless you want to go for a really stonking bottle of wine! Absolutely, unequivocally not worth the price and this is coming from people who are more than happy to splurge on great meals out. The food at Sketch is without a doubt, sub par, we both woke up the next day feeling like we’d binged on kilos of sugar and salt, which is not the feeling you’re aiming for. We both love good food so it’s here that we felt the most cheated, massive thumbs down. Sorry Sketch but you need to up your game! Next up for date night is Bob Bob Ricard and I’m already flexing my ‘press for champagne’ button finger, here’s hoping for an altogether better experience.
