Before you panic, there’s little danger of me turning into a bona fide beauty blogger but I figured the natural follow up to my everyday skincare post, is one detailing my everyday makeup routine for glowing skin. I say ‘every day’ but let’s be real here, there are many days where I don’t wear any makeup at all!
My dogs honestly don’t care if I’m contoured or not…
My relationship with makeup has been a bit ‘meh’ if I’m honest, I’m definitely more of a skincare girl! I spent years getting my face painted as a model and whilst I wish I had a face that could carry lots of makeup, I really don’t. My skin has always aged under heavy foundations and powders and my mono-lids have long kept me from achieving some of my fave eye ‘looks’. I have been incredibly lucky with my skin though *types sentence out and waits for an onslaught of adult acne* and so can rock a dewy look no problem!
When it comes to going out-out… I’m all about that bold lip! Essentially, a glam look for me either centres around a winged eyeliner or a bold lip… Sometimes even both.
Wild I know.
Starting from the ‘bottom’ and working up / outwards…
Glossier Stretch Concealer – After giving up on concealers years ago (see above comment about heavy makeup aging me), this product has completely changed my attitude towards concealers. It applies easily with fingers, blends like a dream and still leaves me looking dewy and most importantly like I’m not plastered in concealer. Faith, totally restored. I sometimes wear this as a foundation, blending outwards from the centre of my face and just touching up wherever necessary. (I use shade medium.)
Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation – If I am going to wear foundation, I would always go for a light coverage, tinted moisturiser type job. I’ve had great success with Bobbi Brown (I used to use their tinted moisturiser but the packaging has changed so I’m not sure if this is the same one), Chanel (Vitalumiere Aqua), NARS (Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser) and now Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder. I think if I had to pick a favourite it would be between Chanel and Charlotte Tilbury but it’s worth testing them all out, if you’re in the market for something new!
Glossier Boy Brow – Yes, yes, YES to this! I bought into the Glossier hype mainly due to the branding but I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, after years of being disappointed by makeup, I was skeptical. The verdict is that whilst I haven’t used the foundation since the first try – really not a fan. I have almost emptied my first tube of boy brow and bought a backup (thanks, Black Friday!). It’s brilliant for taming, thickening and shaping the brows without needing to spend hours doing it. Plus you’ll be saving the hours after (minutes – I’m being dramatic) where you’d usually be agonising over the fact that after all that work, your eyebrows still only tenuously look like sisters and definitely not twins.
Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara – After years of rigorous testing… this mascara comes out on top, especially when taking into consideration the price. Ok so it’s not exactly budget mascara but it’s also not top tier, pricing-wise.
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow – This was a bit of a splurge item but I’m so glad I bought it! I’ve had it two years now, use it all the time and it’s still going strong! If you want to dip your brush in the world of contouring without going to the extreme, this is the perfect product.
NARS Satin Lip Pencil – I have only just started using a more nude colour in the daytime, as opposed to just a balm, but this pencil is so easy to apply I figured, why the heck not! It’s quickly turning into a staple!
So there you have the products I use for my simple everyday makeup look for dewy, glowing skin.
