I’m going to try and keep up with these highlights posts, it’s a nice way to look back at the month with some gratitude and let’s be honest, more gratitude is always a good thing! August has been a busy month for me and it’s passed by in what feels like the blink of an eye…
It’s as they say though, time flies when you’re having fun!
I’ve been knee deep in that dream job that I told you about here, it was touch and go whether it would happen or not, lots of toing and froing and moving of start dates etc but eventually it finally actually happened. The job requires me getting my extremely out of shape arse back in shape, and in pretty much no time at all – 5 weeks of madness and I’m hoping that I’ve managed to do enough. As anyone in fitness knows, there’s only so much you can physiologically do in 5 weeks without totally breaking down but hey, I do love a challenge! I’m also beyond grateful for the push to make it happen, I was starting to feel pretty uncomfortable in my own skin. You know when the scales tip ever so slightly onto the wrong side of being relaxed and having fun to oh god I’ve gone too far and now nothing fits me anymore? Yeah, that was me.
At the beginning of the month, I went to Mallorca to shoot a campaign for Thomas Cook Airlines and got to hang with the raddest bunch of girls for a few days! It was baking hot and involved long days of filming but it was a great crew and there were many laughs and a couple dips in the sea, all of which was a total tonic! Every single time I go to Mallorca I’m reminded of just how beautiful it is and this time I got to see what all the fuss is about, cycling wise. Let me tell you, it’s a cyclists dream!!! The road quality is just insane, barely a single pothole! Incredible climbs, vistas and the ocean to jump in afterwards. I will 100% be going back there with my bike for a week or two.
Back at Break The Loop HQ we finally got our blinds up! No more living in a fishbowl!! The difference it makes to our home is just unreal, it was definitely starting to feel a little studenty in here but now we’re bonafide adults again! Ha! We hunted for ages to find beautiful roman blinds that didn’t cost upwards of £500 each – which is just insane and I can’t for the life of me figure out how companies can justify that cost?! Anyway, if any of you are in the market for blinds or curtains I can’t recommend Ada & Ina enough! They have a huge choice of quality linen fabrics and you can order free samples to make sure you get the right one. For us the tactility of the fabric was really important, I know you don’t necessarily walk around touching blinds (or, maybe you do) but I wanted them to look and feel super warm and inviting if that makes any sense at all!? We had ours lined with cotton and they’re perfect, thick enough to look and feel luxurious but sheer enough to let some light in, they also hang beautifully. (Relatively easy to hang, too.)
I’ll share pictures soon but definitely check out their website (linked above) to get a feel for how they look.
In another house related update and I really hope this doesn’t come across like I’m bragging but… I bought a piece of furniture from Rose & Grey that I’ve been eyeing up for months and I’m so excited for it to arrive! I totally underestimated how long it would take or how expensive it would be to finish our home so each little step forward feels like a big win and even though its all really just material things, I’m so grateful to be in the position of being able to occasionally choose the things I want rather than the things I can afford, if that makes sense?
Anyway, look at her, isn’t she beautiful…
It’s easy to get bogged down in the minutiae of life but I really do want to focus on practising gratitude wherever possible because let’s face it, we have so much to be thankful for. I genuinely believe gratitude is like a muscle, the more you work on it and practice it, almost like a mantra, the more you feel it in your everyday life and we all know that there’s magic in gratitude.
