When we started this whole renovation process I was giddy with excitement about all the content that I’d be able to create and share with you guys and yet here we are, approximately 1 year and only 2.5 blog posts in (plus about 5 shots on the gram, all of the same corner of our bathroom).
The reality is that the renovation process is a whole lot less bloggable than I’d imagined…
It essentially involves your whole life being in disarray for months on end, dusty, messy, disorganised. Anyone that manages to document the whole affair has my utmost respect (I mean, not like a ‘Dr-performing-open-heart-surgery’ or ‘scientist-working-tirelessly-on-a-cure-for-cancer’ type respect but you know what I mean…), if you’re that blogger, please tell me, how did you manage it?! The inner workings of my mind have, for the best part of a year, closely resembled the state of the house – covered in plaster dust and filled with random piles of crap that we’ll definitely / maybe get to later / never.
Decision fatigue is a very real thing.
Maybe the lack of documentation is a blessing but if you were fully here for that #interiorscontent then I’m sorry. In an attempt to make it up to you, today I’m sharing the holy grail of decorating… How to create that dream sofa look without spending the same amount as the GDP of a small country. Yep, it’s possible and it’s all down to Bemz, a Swedish company that creates stylish slipcovers in over 250 different fabrics for, wait for it… Your old, budget-friendly, IKEA sofas.
I’ll repeat that…
Boom.
I can’t tell you how long we were umming and ahhing over which sofa to get. We clearly have expensive tastes because everything we really wanted was around £5000+ which just isn’t feasible right now and everything else on the market fell so short of the mark, whilst still costing a decent amount of money might I add, we were stumped.
Then one day I was scrolling Pinterest, avoiding work – as you do, and I found these… (Click the image to have a quick gander at the most beautiful selection of custom look sofas.)
We immediately ordered a few fabric swatches, all the neutrals, obvs! The dream is a massive white linen sofa… Possibly not the wisest choice given the two small dogs that are forever looking for the comfiest spot in the house but, that’s the beauty of slipcovers, right? They get dirty, you throw them in the wash! Even better, with white, you can just add a bit of bleach for those really tough stains. Anyway, we’re currently between the 3 fabrics above… so far, the soft white is winning. Absolute white is a bit too blue toned and the unbleached is a bit too similar to our new Cox and Cox rug… (whilst on that note, Cox and Cox offer 20% off to brand new customers, perfect for the more expensive items!)
So, that’s where we’re at…
Will most definitely report back when our slipcovers arrive! When they do, our living room should finally (sort of) be… dare I say it? finished!
