Four tiny little words that currently hold so much meaning for me. Less hustle, more magic.
My new mantra.
For so long, being busy has been a badge of honour and despite self-care being a whole mood in 2018 I know for a fact that a lot of us are still balancing that tightrope of being so busy that our head feels like it might spin off at any moment. Or, on the flip-side, we’re so conditioned to associate being busy with being successful that if we’re not busy for whatever reason, we can easily sink into a spiral of negativity, comparison, anxiety and worry – totally letting those everyday magical moments and opportunities pass us by, unnoticed.
It’s a veritable sh*t storm of emotions with little to no upside.
And, I hate to say this but I’d bet that the weekly bath with the good candles and a bucket of wine, whilst enjoyable and totally necessary at times, really isn’t doing all that much to restore #balance over the long term.
So, the question is, what are we really working towards and most importantly, will we actually be happier when we get there? Depending on the answer, I don’t know, guys…
I’m trying really hard to flip the script on what’s constantly rammed down our throats, pretty much from the moment we hit adulthood and instead I’m sprinkling a bit more magic into my days.
Staying in my own lane and working towards what I want but also choosing to be happy right now, with what I have and where I am.
Not when I’ve signed that massive dream client, or look a certain way, or when the house is ‘finished’ but right now. I want to see, clearly, the absolute magic that’s in our messy little home, in our imperfect (but awesome) relationship, the busy days where I feel pulled from pillar to post and that’s also in the quiet days where I get total control of how I spend my time.
Absolute magic.
I want to live life in a way that will make my inner child happy whilst still working on my dreams and yes, being a ‘success’ financially speaking. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that that’s totally possible.
Speaking of success, it will look different on everyone and there’s no right or wrong way to do it, there’s also no set timeline either – despite what society would have us believe.
Take a moment and have a think…
(Not what you think it should like but what it actually looks like…)
It might look like making your first million. It might look like having a family and creating a loving home. It might look like making £1000 per month in your first year as a freelancer. It might look like managing your mental health in a way that allows you to live a happy life filled with laughter and deep connections. It might look like landing that dream job that has absolutely nothing to do with your degree and has garnered a few raised eyebrows and crosswords from your parents. It might look like becoming debt free by 30. It might look like living a life that allows you write for hours each day whilst wearing your PJs.
My point is that if we give up trying to live in a way that pleases everyone around us, we’ll have so much more energy for going after what is truly important to us.
Honestly, f*** what anyone else thinks.
This isn’t a test run that we all have to pass with distinction in order for our real lives to begin.
This. Is. It.
So yeah, I’m having a little re-jig of my priorities and making sure that my version of success is just that – my version. I really hope that this post encourages you to do the same.
All of those little shifts, allow me more mental space, room to breathe and expand and truly figure out how to do the work that will get me to where I want to be.
Tell me, what does less hustle, more magic look like to you?
How can you add a little more magic into your everyday?
I’d love you to capture your moments and share them with #LessHustleMoreMagic
