I love a good podcast, podcasts have almost taken over books for me, the reason being – and as a lifelong lover of books I hate to admit this – is that it feels like a more efficient way to learn from a time point of view. Reading requires that you sit still, focused solely on the task at hand. Podcasts, however, are way less demanding and can be listened to whilst out on a run, on your commute, walking to grab your morning coffee… I find them a great tool to encourage me to move more! Exercising your heart and your mind at the same time, now that’s a type of multitasking I can fully get behind. I will also hold my hands up and say that most of what I know, from a business perspective, has come from podcasts. You can quickly gain different perspectives, different insights and best of all with current episodes being released daily, you can always stay bang up to date with industry best practices. So without any more waffling, I want to share with you a list of my favourite podcasts for female founders and entrepreneurs… Actually, though, these podcasts will benefit anyone who wants to take their career forwards in some way, whether you’re a freelancer, small business owner, or not yet any of the above.
Jenna Kutcher’s ‘Goal Digger’. This woman is a force!! I absolutely love her podcasts and learn something new (or I’m reminded of something important) from each and every episode. She covers every aspect of running a creative business and isn’t afraid to give away all of her best secrets. Her consistency is a thing of beauty and you can expect two new podcasts every week without fail.
Beth Kirby’s ‘Raw Milk’. Beth only has a handful of episodes out but they’re all brilliant. Beth and I have quite similar back stories with addiction and mental health struggles and so listening to her speak and watching her dominate within her field, gives me so much hope for the future.
Adrienne Herbert’s ‘Power Hour’. You knew I wasn’t going to leave this one off the list, didn’t you! Proud to call this woman my best friend and blown away by the standard of content that she’s putting out on the Power Hour podcast – it’s brand new but she has hit the ground running – which if you know her, is no surprise! I would listen to this podcast even if I didn’t know and love her! Great guests, loads of valuable takeaways and Adrienne’s energy is just infectious – perfect if you’re having a down day or struggling to get things moving.
Sara Tasker’s ‘Hashtag Authentic’. The queen of the gram. Sara has created a multiple 6 figure business from Instagram and her podcast covers all of that and much, much more!
Emily Thompson and Kathleen Shannon’s ‘Being Boss’. This is the first podcast that really got me into podcasts, especially business-focused ones. I love that these girls aren’t afraid to add a little woo-woo magic into their episodes, they epitomise the idea that you can be a badass business woman whilst being exactly who you are – as long as you do the work.
Lauren Evart’s ‘The Skinny Confidential’. From blogger to podcaster to businesswoman. This woman really knows her stuff and she isn’t afraid to get into the nitty-gritty of life and business, from sex to wellness to beauty products to ayahuasca to building an empire, she gets into it all. I also get the impression that she’s a real champion of women
Chloe Brotheridge’s ‘The Calmer You’. A podcast all about managing our mental health in a positive way, helping us to be happier, calmer and more confident – something that regardless of our mental health status, we could all do with a bit more of, especially as we navigate the world of bootstrapping and building successful businesses, am I right!? I work with Chloe personally and she has made a huge difference to my mindset so if you are currently struggling but can’t work with someone face to face right now, definitely give this podcast a go.
Taylor Morgan and Sydney Liann’s ‘What The Eff’. Like many of us, they’re building and running a business whilst juggling ‘life’ and being open and honest about not knowing ‘what the eff’ they’re doing. An important reminder that none of us really know what we’re doing and yet, it’s imperative that we go ahead and do it anyway!
(Another one from the lovely Sara, she’s a podcasting machine!) Sara Tasker and Jenn Carrington’s ‘Letters From a Hopeful Creative’. This one is a new favourite of mine, these girls speak to me and the way they work and view the business of being creative, really resonates with me and mirrors my own preferred style of building a business. I’d highly recommend this podcast if you’re at the beginning of your creative business journey and are feeling overwhelmed and a bit put off by the endless cries of ‘you need to be hustling for 20 hours a day if you want to make it’ etc. This podcast is the perfect antidote to that, showing people that there is another way.
Last but definitely not least… Nicky Raby’s ‘Dreaming and Doing’. Listening to Nicky talk is like conversations with an old (Northern) friend. She has almost 100 episodes (!!) up and ready for you to get stuck into and she has interviewed a brilliant range of guests from all different fields and backgrounds, proving that success really does look different on everyone and that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all version.
There you have it – my top ten podcasts for female founders and creative entrepreneurs! There are more I could have added to the list but this is definitely enough to be getting on with… Maybe I’ll do a ‘part 2’ in a few months time.
I’d love to know which podcasts you’re listening to and loving right now?
