Ok, maybe that’s a touch dramatic but these apps really are integral to me making a living from digital content creation in the easiest and quickest way possible. I mean, that’s what apps are really designed to do, right? Save you time whilst still getting the same results, without you having to be chained to your desk 24/7. So, in no particular order here are the 5 editing apps that I can’t live without and why…
The big guns of photo editing. Lightroom has been a bit of a game changer for me, I finally got to grips with it at the end of 2018 (even though I’ve been paying a monthly subscription fee for it for well over a year now – I know, I know.) after upgrading cameras (I sold the Olympus Pen EPL7 with the lenses and bought a Canon 5D MkIII) and it has totally levelled up my picture editing game. Lightroom allows you to create your own filters that are totally unique to you and your brand, it also allows you to really work with and alter the colours in a photograph, it’s actually incredible what you can change in Lightroom and I can guarantee that most of your favourite Instagrammers are using either the app or the desktop version to create those incredibly dreamy images. Want the sky to be pink, not blue? Sure! Want those green leaves to look all autumnal in burnt orange? Yep, you can do that in Lightroom.
If you don’t have the time or the inclination to create your own presets in Lightroom, you can buy preset bundles from so many of your favourite bloggers and photographers these days (See HERE, HERE & HERE just for starters! Oh and Jenna Kutcher is giving a few of hers away for FREE See HERE).
Whatever your preference, this powerful little app is so worth getting to grips with!
This is the app that I use to edit my Instagram stories with all sorts of cool effects – different sized borders, polaroid effect, torn paper etc… It just allows you to add a little style to what is really a pretty clunky affair. I’m surprised that Instagram hasn’t caught on to more refined story editing yet but it’s fine because Unfold has our back!
As much as I’m definitely a Lightroom convert, I still use this app on the reg, sometimes for stories, sometimes just out of habit. If you’re hesitant to jump on board the Lightroom train but still want to make the move away from Instagram filters then VSCO is a brilliant option! You can do a lot in this app with the little sliders – alter temperature, sharpness, hue and whatnot but the filters on their own are pretty great too – perfect if you love a more vintage style of photo!
Ok, another little dig here at Instagram but if you’re over the standard aka ugly AF font options (I feel you sista!!), then Word Swag is a great option! You can use it to create engaging Instagram Story photos for your projects, products and blog posts as well as posts optimised for Facebook and Pinterest. (I’m guessing Canva is a similar option but I never really got into using that tool.)
So this isn’t technically an editing app, at least, that’s not what I use it for (although you can edit within it)… I use it daily for planning out my feed and the order in which things are posted. This app definitely appeals to the perfectionist in me but it also helps to encourage batch working, another of my 2019 goals. You can plan 18 images in advance and the drag and drop system makes it super easy to play around with the order of your images until your happy. You can basically get everything done and ready to go in UNUM such as pre-write your captions which is a massive stress / time saver! No more frantically writing something a bit sh** two minutes before you’re supposed to post.
If you have any other game-changing picture editing apps drop me a line and let me know!?
