I have to be totally honest, I skived off big time today, I had so much stuff I could have been doing but instead, here I am at 5pm still avoiding making eye contact with my to-do list and instead, thinking seriously about giving in to the lure of Netflix and chill. I’ve already read a few chapters of this in between trying to eke out some work.
I mean, it is Friday after all and it’s snowing (sort of)! In fact, given the (light dusting of) snow, I probably should have just called it quits a lot sooner but, I’m nothing if not stubborn!
I just thought I’d pop in, say hi and share a little corner of our home with you as we’re almost finished tinkering and dressing this particular space. However, there is a temptation to paint the walls another colour, though it’s still just a whisper of an idea right now – although we all know what tends to happen with those. If we do decide to paint, I really hope it’s still a ‘finishing’ thing and not a wolf in sheep’s clothing aka the ‘decorating domino effect’ that Kate talks about over on Mad About The House. You know, the one where you change one thing and then the whole house needs re-jigging.
I don’t know if I’ve quite got the stomach for that, not yet… Give it a year at least.
Just a teeny brag, if you’ll allow, I’m so, so pleased with how our IKEA sofa hack turned out! We took two super affordable Soderhamn sofas and wedged them together to make one long luxurious sofa that fits in our slightly-oddly-shaped-living-space perfectly. They have deep seats and are actually, really very comfortable. The thing that made them a total triumph though was the Bemz Design washed linen covers… To be transparent, I managed to wangle a discount from the kind folk at Bemz but I still paid a slightly eye-watering amount for them (it’s affordable for one sofa, still feels like a bargain in fact but things get considerably more pricy when you have two to cover!), make no mistake I would have paid full price for them in a heartbeat. Anyway, we went with the Rosendal pure washed linen in soft white and we’re in love – they (and IKEA) have given us the sofa of our dreams for less than a third of the price!! When we get bored of white (or something really dramatic happens to them that just can’t be washed out) we’ll definitely be going back to Bemz for a style refresh.
Also, and I realise that you will be exponentially less excited about this than I am but I finally managed to get my hands on the pom-pom cushion of dreams… I’ve been searching for this cushion for years, literally! I kept seeing it everywhere but people were being stingy with the old tags. Then I stumbled across this site and instantly blacked out… when I came to, my bank account was empty and just a few short weeks later, my sofa had never looked better. Don’t talk to me about customs and taxes, though. Too soon.
The living space is looking so good right now, I mean, there are still things that we want / need to do – change all the windows and doors, floor the place properly, replace the staircase etc but we are, at last, content with how things look. (I swear my credit card just whimpered with joy.)
It shouldn’t get too excited though…
Next up, the kitchen!
Who else is into the layers of white interior ‘trend’? (I say trend but really it’s a classic) I know everyone is big on the darker colours at the moment, which I love too – don’t get me wrong. If we had a Victorian town house style property, we’d have gone down that route too. But there’s something so calming and peaceful about light, bright spaces that I’m always drawn to.
Essentially I just need two houses… I know, I don’t ask for much.
Pin for later;
