Seriously though, I’m not one to push consumerism on you all but the Arada wood burning stove has been our absolute favourite house purchase so far (we got the Ecoburn Plus 11 linked HERE) and it’s one that will keep giving us joy for years and years to come – making it one of the more efficient purchases, for sure. Just to be totally transparent, this post is in collaboration with Arada, however, they reached out to us way after we actually purchased and installed our stove so you can rest assured that this is something that we spent our hard-earned money on and would do again in a heartbeat.

INTRODUCING OUR ARADA WOOD BURNING STOVE AKA OUR PRIDE AND JOY

Let’s be honest, there’s probably nothing better than being cosied up on the sofa with the fire roaring away in front of us. The dogs (and cat sometimes too) curled up as close as they can possibly manage it without actually being in the fire, snoozling away contentedly. (I say ‘snoozling’ but actually, Betty has the snore of a 200lb man who’s been in the pub all evening – quite impressive considering her size.) The lights dimmed low, wine poured… it’s about as comforting and homely as a home can get.

Added bonus points for cold, stormy weather outside.

Not to mention the fact that we live in a 120+ year old property so that fact that our wood burner kicks out a huge amount of heat, is an absolute godsend from October through to March.

You might be wondering why I’m talking about this now though, as we’re just about to hit Summer (we’re about to hit Summer, right?! Right?!)… Anyway, the installation can take a while depending on a few factors and also it’s not cheap – sorry guys, the installation for ours actually cost twice the amount of the stove. Ouch. It’s also worth noting that we already had a wood burning stove and chimney fitted so I assume that the cost will be *quite* a bit more if you need a chimney installing. Think multiple site visits, maybe even structural work, so definitely reach out to your local installers for quotes and lead times etc, sooner rather than later.

BUT WAIT, AREN’T WOOD BURNING STOVES ABOUT TO BE BANNED?

There’s been a lot of talk about wood burning stoves being banned in the UK but don’t panic, all that’s happening is that stricter policies are being put in place, limiting the use of old an inefficient woodburning stoves to make way for modern, efficient and safe technology – all of which Arada do very, very well. Their entire range of Farringdon stoves has been created to fall well within the new guidelines that will take effect in 2022 and are perfect for those living in smoke controlled areas.

Arada offer multi-fuel stoves, meaning that you’re not limited to wood, you can burn coal or smokeless fuel as well.  They also have a small selection of gas stoves – so there’s something for every household.

When choosing a stove my main piece of advice would be to figure out how much heat you think you’ll realistically need and then size up. I have friends that get barely any heat from their cute-but-small stove and I know they wish they’d gone bigger (is it ok to add a ‘that’s what she said’ joke into a sponsored post?! Asking for a friend…). This doesn’t matter so much if you have super efficient heating but if you’ll be relying heavily on the stove for warmth then definitely factor that in.
